When Cloverfield Met Transformers: It’s the Pacific Rim Trailer!

We may never get a Cloverfield 2, but Pacific Rim could be the next best thing. Unlike Cloverfield‘s single creature, it features multiple giant monsters wreaking havoc on Earth, with humanity responding by creating giant piloted robots to kick their otherworldly butts. And now we have a trailer, and it’s as big and visually striking as you’d expect — although as a horror fan, I would’ve liked to get a better look at the creatures. It will be interesting to see how much of a horror angle veteran genre director Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Mimic, Blade II) incorporates into the film, but if the trailer is any indication, I’d say not much. Still, I’m rooting for Pacific Rim to succeed, if only because it could potentially boost del Toro’s pull in Hollywood to a level that maybe he could finally get his adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness off the ground.
