Check Out the Trailer for Darren Lynn Bousman’s The Barrens, Headed Straight to Video in October

Still looking for a breakthrough hit outside of the Saw franchise, writer-director Darren Lynn Bousman (Repo! The Genetic Opera, Mother’s Day, 11-11-11) probably won’t be getting it with his latest effort, The Barrens. That’s because the film will forego theaters (technically, you can request it via the Tugg service) and head straight to home video (DVD, Blu-ray and VOD) on October 9. The film stars True Blood‘s Stephen Moyer as a father who may or may not be driven nuts by the Jersey Devil when his family goes on a camping trip. Mia Kirshner and Erik Knudsen also appear. The trailer looks competent enough — like an outdoorsy riff on The Shining — but creatively speaking, it appears to be a bit of a step backward for Bousman. We’ll see when The Barrens releases in October.
