I’ve always enjoyed horror movie posters — check out some of my choices for the best and worst — and John Edgar Browning’s Graphic Horror: Movie Monster Memories uses this unique art form to trace the history of monster movies from the early 20th century to today. Like horror movies themselves, their movie posters are ever adapting, reflecting the morals and aesthetic values of the time in which they were made, and Graphic Horror presents a fascinating and attractive timeline featuring over 400 posters (including some cool foreign ones) and movie stills spread out over almost 200 pages, ranging from mainstream hits to more obscure fringe flicks. Each decade gets a brief writeup, while a number of horror experts add their two cents on select films that have struck a chord with them over the years, providing interesting insight and opinions that may or may not gel with your own.
