"God creates dinosaurs, God destroys dinosaurs, God creates Man, Man kills God, Man brings back dinosaurs," Jeff Goldblum deadpanned in "Jurassic Park," released 25 years ago this week. It was a pithy summary of Steven Spielberg's landmark monster movie and the series it launched that left audiences gasping in wonder as they handed over a dino-sized $3.8 billion for tickets over four films.

Jeff Goldblum was described as "deeply moral" and a "wonderful friend" as he was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. The American actor, known for starring in the Jurassic Park franchise and Independence Day, was joined by speakers Norm Eisen and Ed Begley Jr at the ceremony in Los Angeles on Thursday while his wife and children watched on.

The 41-year-old Australian writer-director, best known for turning a post-film-school short into the multi-million-dollar horror franchise Saw, is used to people being surprised about his even temperament. "People will meet me then five minutes later say, 'I can't believe you made that stuff up'," Whannell told triple J Breakfast.

It might not surprise you to know that Stephen King 's work has been adapated to film and television more times than any other author in history. Of course, it helps that he is such a prolific writer; already he's had one book published this year with another coming in October, and that's after the two he publised in 2017.

Leigh Whannell's low-budget horror feature Upgrade , now playing in general release, reminds me of the goofy genre mash-ups made by Brian De Palma in the 1960s and '70s and Takashi Miike in the 1990s and the aughts . Whannell steals from so many different movies - and does it so cheerfully - that Upgrade stops feeling derivative and starts looking like a collage, with the recycled elements forming a new sensibility.
