Just in time for Valentine's Day, Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts presents A Date With John Waters on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m. Affectionately known as "The King of Bad Taste" and "The Pope of Trash," Waters is celebrated for his now-classic cult movies such as Pink Flamingos, Polyester and Hairspray. Bestselling writer Joyce Maynard will discuss and sign copies of her latest memoir, "The Best of Us," at the Oakland Public Library's Montclair Branch, 1687 Mountain Blvd., at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 9. Maynard was originally scheduled to appear at the Montclair library on Dec. 12, but the event was delayed by the city strike. "The Best of Us" tells the story of the author's discovery of her true partner, Jim Barringer, in mid-life only to lose him to a battle with cancer.
