There are lots of scary and fun films to look forward to on TV this Halloween, family favourites like ParaNorman and Tim Burton's Corpse Bride will keep kids entertained, whilst adults can enjoy horrors like Dawn of the Dead and Poltergeist. If you don't like scary films, head over to BBC 2 on Monday night for some light relief with What We Do in the Shadows - a mockumentary about vampires.

Twenty years ago this month, two intrepid young directors - including a Maryland native - and three little-known actors descended upon the state to film what they thought would be a small, low-budget film. Though "The Blair Witch Project" took only eight days to film and had a shooting budget of about $25,000, the film was a historic success, grossing almost $250 million when it was released in 1999.

A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge may have been slated by critics on release, but it's gained a heavy cult following thanks in no small part to it heavy gay subtext, which has been analysed countless times over the years. What gay subtext, you ask? How about the time lead character Jesse wonders into an S&M leather bar, or that unforgettable scene where his gym teacher is tied up in the showers and whipped with towels across his bare butt.

Played by Tobin Bell in seven films beginning with 2004's Saw , Jigsaw would put his victims through gruesome games to test their will to live - and the deaths were usually gory and pretty darn clever.

Just in time for Halloween, Slipknot is launching a pop-up shop in Los Angeles to celebrate the upcoming Ozzfest Meets Knotfest. The shop will be open on October 30 from 6-9 p.m. at the Hollywood Palladium.

When "Stranger Things" debuted on Netflix last year, it became one of those charmingly delightful, out-of-the-box surprises that television delivers far too seldom. With affectionate homages to Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter and Stephen King, it wove a mesmerizing tale of a small Indiana town - circa 1983 - being tormented by a mysterious creature.
