Earlier this year, I wrote about The Rise of the Synths , a documentary about the rising popularity of the synthwave genre that has been ushered by artists such as Perturbator, Carpenter Brut, Gunship, Miami Nights 1984, Lazerhawk, and similar. Their music is steeped in the synth sounds of the 70's and 80's, inspired by films like Suspiria, The Terminator, The Hitcher, Prince of Darkness , and so on and so forth.

Samantha Geimer's testimony marked the first time she has appeared in court in the drawn-out case involving the 83-year-old Oscar-winning filmmaker An American woman raped by filmmaker Roman Polanski as a teenager four decades ago pleaded with a California judge on Friday to end the case so she could move on with her life. Samantha Geimer, who was 13 at the time of the assault in 1977, said she has been serving a 40-year sentence that has kept a cloud over her and her family.

"The Mummy" is a mess, a movie in such a hurry to introduce more monsters under Universal's "Dark Universe" banner that it comes awkwardly wrapped in impenetrable layers of exposition. Tom Cruise occupies center stage in this not-quite-a-reboot, which features Sofia Boutella as the Mummy, an Egyptian princess named Ahmanet who committed patricide, made a pact to unleash the god of death and was cursed by being buried alive for her troubles.
