With news breaking over the weekend that genre movie innovator and digital deconstructionist Robert Rodriguez will be helming the remake of John Carpenter's cult classic thriller Escape From New York , we thought it a good time to take a quick look back at Carpenter's own sequel/sorta remake, 1996's often dismissed or outright ignored Escape From L.A . When Carpenter released the original Escape in 1981, the modestly budgeted pulp action flick was a huge hit, both domestically and, surprisingly, in Europe where, along with 1979's Mad Max and its 1982 sequel, every savvy producer tried their hand at ripping it off.

While we know for a fact that a lot of filming has taken place for Saw: Legacy , the upcoming eighth entry in the franchise, we don't know much about the film itself, at least in terms of its plot. We've heard rumors that a lot of the film takes place in a farm setting, which would take it outside of the nameless city that the first seven films were set in.

April says goodbye to a rather impressive list of titles , but true to form, Netflix is bringing in a healthy amount of new titles and a few older favorites back to instant streaming this April. While some horror franchises have become relics of their time, there's still something terrifying about Robert Englund 's performance as Freddy Kruger in Wes Craven 's " A Nightmare on Elm Street ."

Hollywood A-listers George Clooney and Matt Damon surprised staff at a city gym after they turned up to play basketball Superstars Matt Damon and George Clooney working out in a Cambridge gym and a raft of stars including David Beckham on a punt are just a few of the rich and famous who love our city. They were filming scenes at the Imperial War Museum Duxford for Second World War movie The Monuments Men in 2013.

Mother-daughter-mother actresses Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher, who died in December just a day apart, were remembered by fans and friends on Saturday at a public memorial service in the Hollywood Hills, where they were laid to rest side-by-side in January. Before their brand became synonymous with Gothic horror fantasies dripping with promises of Freudian sex and death, Hammer Films steadily pumped out a series of quality British melodramas, mysteries and Hitchcockian thrillers, most of them produced economically in black and white and exported internationally by major studios with little fanfare. But in circling back on these early curiosities - many of which were produced well into the early 1960s - one can find some remarkable motion pictures, many of which are bold, daring and way ahead of their time.
