Various filmmakers have done remakes of John Carpenter classics over the years without any success. The new takes on "Halloween," "The Fog," and "The Thing" all fizzled, arguably the best was "Assault on Precinct 13" and even that had some big issues.

"Westworld" might be HBO's hottest new property, and its best bet at a drama hit in a while, but the bones of the sci-series are old. In addition to being based on the 1973 film of the same name, which was written and directed by legendary author Michael Crichton, HBO's adaptation tips its hat to a number of other influences - from video games to another Crichton classic.

ITV's new Sunday night historical drama Tutankhamun begins tonight, with all the period flair and Downton Abbey connections you could hope for to keep us cosy in the dark autumn evenings. Series star Max Irons plays moustachioed archeologist Howard Carter in the drama and as it turns out, filming the series was almost as harrowing as the real-life excavation it was inspired by Well, when I first read the script I sort of fell slightly in love with it because it reminds me of the sort of stories that I read as a kid.

Set to run from October 19-31, the "13 Nights Of Halloween" programming block will feature a handful of Halloween-themed movies and specials, including "R.L. Stine's Monsterville: Cabinet of Souls," "Spooky Buddies," and "Hocus Pocus."
