For a little while there, it looked like Eli Roth had vanished. Although he worked steadily as a producer in the years after the Hostel: Part II died a quick death at the box office, it took him a long time to return to the director's chair.

The actor is best known for his roles in ITV series Grantchester as well as the BBC's Happy Valley and period drama War And Peace. The Bafta-nominated 31-year-old will take on the leading role in the new programme inspired by Misha Glenny's best-selling 2008 book McMafia, which delved into the global reach of organised crime.

It's easy, though, when the Dante in question is Joe, and the hot-as-hell event is "Joe Dante at the Movies," a 20-day festival of the director's favorite films - both those he directed, and those that inspired him. Kicking off Friday at Brooklyn's BAMCinematek with Dante's own "Gremlins," the festival includes such gleefully gruesome classics as "The Howling," "Piranha," "Matinee" and "The 'Burbs."

At this point, even the most die-hard comic-book movie apologists would have to admit that the superhero genre is stuck in a rut. Audiences still dutifully attend every release, returning to theaters the way that the zombies in Dawn of the Dead returned to the shopping mall, as though keeping a muscle memory obligation to the collective unconscious.

BRIAN Cox is no stranger to giving great performances. His Hannibal Lecter, in Manhunter, remains for some the definitive version of cinema's greatest serial killer, while he has contributed similarly memorable performances to the likes of both the X-Men franchise and Bourne .

The lifelong monster fan has directed a number of terror tales - including the hugely influential Habit - and appeared in many more, from Ti West's Trigger Man , to Adam Wingard's You're Next , to Joe Begos' out-this-week telekinesis horror-thriller The Mind's Eye . Fessenden is also one of the folks responsible for the spine-tingling Tales From Beyond the Pale audio series, and he cowrote the survival video game, Until Dawn .

Fox's two-hour Rocky Horror Picture Show TV movie has been set for a world premiere screening at Mipcom this October. The Cannes TV conference, which last year hosted the world premiere of the new X-Files , and whose sister market Mip-TV screened the Roots reboot for the first time in April, will show the new version on October 18. It then debuts on Fox on October 20. The special features Laverne Cox as Dr Frank-N-Furter; Victoria Justice as Janet; Ryan McCartan as Brad; and Adam Lambert as Eddie.

Actor Barry Bostwick, who played all-American Brad Majors in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," will host a screening of the film at The Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts in Worcester at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28 to celebrate its 40th anniversary. "40th Anniversary The Rocky Horror Picture Show Film Screening Party With Barry Bostwick" will include the screening, a costume contest, and a Q&A with Bostwick.

Winona Ryder has spoken about her infamous shoplifting conviction in 2001. The actress, who is currently appearing in sci-fi Netflix drama Stranger Things , was convicted of attempting to steal items amounting to $5,500 from Beverly Hills department store Saks Fifth Avenue.
