When The Angry Birds Movie was announced a few years ago, a lot of people got in an uproar over it. A movie based on a phone game?!? Well, I argued then that there have been very successful movies based on less fully-developed properties The Angry Birds Movie is a fun little romp.

Osgood Perkins, son of legendary Psycho actor Anthony Perkins, makes his directorial debut with The Black Coat's Daughter , which seems to be traveling a rocky road on its way into our lives. The film, originally titled February , was set to hit DirecTV on August 25th and then theaters on September 30th, but those plans have changed.

The Park Theatre will be screening the original uncut summer movie blockbuster JAWS in HD as part of the Jaffrey Festival of Fireworks Weekend. The film will also be a fundraiser for the soon-to-built Park Theatre.

You'd think that the polymathic Bill Gunn, who directed, wrote, and co-starred in "Ganja & Hess," from 1973 , would have thrived in the freewheeling New Hollywood of the nineteen-seventies. He didn't-and the film didn't, either.

J.K. Rowling has thrown some major shade at a wand-shop owner, after the businessman banned fans of her "Harry Potter" series from his establishment. The author fired up her Twitter account this weekend after reading about the ban, zinging the owner with the wit that has made her one of the world's most beloved women of letters.

South Tyneside has turned to one of its most famous sons to ensure an epic opening for its ambitious new cultural venue, The Word. An exhibition paying tribute to the work of Sir Ridley Scott will be the inaugural attraction when the venue in South Shields opens to the public in October.

Academy Award-, Golden Globe-, Emmy- and Tony-winning actor Geoffrey Rush has been cast in National Geographic Channel's upcoming global anthology series GENIUS, from FOX 21 Television Studios , Imagine Television , OddLot Entertainment and EUE/Sokolow. Rush will star as Albert Einstein in the first-ever scripted series for the network.
