63rd Annual Azalea Garden Tour begins

As the Azalea Festival continues, the Queen cut the ribbon at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater to begin the Azalea Garden Tour. The Azalea Festival has been a tradition in the Port City since 1948, and shortly after it began, the Cape Fear Garden Club added the Azalea Garden Tour.

The Prytania Theatre will present a double feature of horror-comedy cult classics The Toxic Avenger and Class of Nuke 'Em High tonight, April 8, and Saturday, April 9 at 10 p.m. Director Lloyd Kaufman will be in attendance to greet fans and sit for a post-screening Q&A. Tickets are $15.

Renowned British actor/writer/director Steven Berkoff will direct a rare production of Eugene O'Neill's 1922 expressionist play The Hairy Ape, opening May 14 at West L.A.'s Odyssey Theatre. O'Neill's harrowing critique of class stratification is the story of Robert "Yank" Smith, a brutish ship laborer who searches for a sense of belonging in a world controlled by the wealthy elite.

Stars of the show - including Tamsin Greig, Stephen Mangan and Julian Rhind-Tutt - offered their support to NHS staff at Northwick Park hospital in Harrow, north-west London on Wednesday .

Michael Reid el reports that the Tony-winning director, known for THE LION KING and the tumultuous SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK, has been approached by Marty Bandier of Sony/ATV to create a new musical featuring the songs of the Beatles. Sources insist that the project will not be in any way related to the 2007 film ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, which Taymor helmed - and also happened to feature songs from the Beatles catalogue.
