One of the most trenchant moments at Sunday night's Academy Awards came when Louis CK reminded the assembled members of the Hollywood community that almost all of them were rich as a result of their work in the entertainment industry. Sometimes, filmmakers take us behind the scenes of the movie industry and give the audience a chance to see how important living the high life is to many in the business.

Since really being bit by the exploitation bug many years back, I've seen my share of Jess Franco films. This is a cinematic inevitability, as he appears to be responsible for roughly one third of all of the movies ever released.

George Kennedy, 91, the veteran actor who built his early career playing heavies and won an Academy Award in 1968 for his supporting role as the tough Southern prison-camp convict who grew to hero-worship Paul Newman's defiant title character in Cool Hand Luke , died Sunday in Boise, Idaho. In a more than 50-year screen career, the deep-voiced Mr. Kennedy appeared in dozens of movies, including The Flight of the Phoenix , The Sons of Katie Elder , The Dirty Dozen , Earthquake , Cahill United States Marshal , The Eiger Sanction , Death on the Nile , and the "Airport" series of films.

After The X-Files , Limitless and Minority Report hit TV screens this year, American networks have plenty more adaptations in the works, with projects to bring all kinds of past hits to the small screen for the 2016/2017 season. With Rush Hour scheduled for March in the US, Fox is giving another famous buddy movie franchise from the 1980s and 1990s a new lease of life on the small screen.
