My favorite film of 1977 was not "Star Wars" but "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," Steven Spielberg's U.F.O fantasia. Notwithstanding the fact that I was nine years old, I considered "Star Wars" a little childish.

CINEMAGOERS could be forgiven for thinking they'd gone back in time this year after returning to a galaxy far, far away, a theme park island populated by dinosaurs and being taken on the latest mission of a certain MI6 agent. Nostalgia certainly proved a powerful force with the fourth, seventh and twenty-fourth films in the Jurassic Park, Star Wars and James Bond franchises racking up all-time high box office figures.

Comedian, actor, producer and rapper Mike Epps will celebrate the New Year by bringing his comedy act to The Orleans Showroom this weekend, Jan. 1-2. Epps began his stand-up career in 1995 when he joined the "Def Comedy Jam" tour.
