The Alien star is the latest original castmember of the 1984 movie and its 1989 sequel to join director Paul Feig's all-female instalment, which features Kristen Wiig , Melissa MCCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate MCKinnon. Announcing the news on Twitter.com on Friday , the filmmaker writes, "Gang, trying to keep surprises but this is about to leak, so I'll tell you myself: the awesome Sigourney Weaver is going to be in our movie!" Weaver played Ghostbusters client-turned-demon Dana Barrett in the first movie, although it is not clear if she will reprise the same role for the revamp.

How many hack comics have joked about the beastly effects of PMS? "Ginger Snaps" takes those jokes one step further in a wickedly humorous feminist werewolf allegory.

What's the point of watching horror movies? An often argued reason is catharsis. Horror movies have a unique way of dredging up cultural anxieties and playing them to their worst ends on screen, so when the lights come up, we can say, “it's only a movie,” and dismiss those fears away.

For the past few years, Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights has been another creative outlet for musicians, with Slash, Black Sabbath and Rob Zombie among those who've seen their music used as the soundtrack and inspiration for horror mazes. This year, Queen guitarist Brian May is the de facto artist in residence with the annual Halloween event featuring the U.S. debut of his short film One Night in Hell.

Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain have joined British director Ridley Scott at the premiere of their new film The Martian in London. The screening in Leicester Square was also due to be attended by Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Sean Bean, Jeff Daniels and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
