Today is Sir Alfred Hitchcock's birthday. The Master of Suspense, easily the most famous film director who ever lived, was born on Aug. 13, 1899 and died on April 29, 1980 at age 80. Many of Hitchcock's films are as famous as the director himself.

If you're looking for an innovative way to cool down this summer, try spending some time with the ice blondes who populate the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinema's "Happy Birthday, Hitch!" series. Running Aug. 17-20, the mini-festival of Alfred Hitchcock movies kicks off with "Psycho" featuring Janet Leigh at her chilliest, and concludes with the silent version of "Blackmail" starring Czech beauty Anny Ondra.

The Spartanburg Little Theater recently concluded a production of The Rocky Horror Show at The Chapman Cultural Center in Spartanburg, part of its Fringe series. Those who never saw the stage show, who have only seen the movie, were in for a treat.

The supergroup, which also includes members of Aerosmith and ex-Guns 'N' Roses players, has announced a trio of live dates in support of an album of rock 'n' roll covers. Hollywood Vampires, the star-studded supergroup boasting Johnny Depp and Alice Cooper , have announced they'll be performing a small number of live shows in support of their upcoming first album.

Starvox Entertainment announced today it has signed David Arquette to play the title role in an original adaptation of Sherlock Holmes inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle 's classic tales by the late Canadian playwright, Greg Kramer. Sherlock Holmes premiered in Montreal in 2013 in a sold-out, critically acclaimed production at The Segal Centre directed by Andrew Shaver, who will remount the show for a North American tour, playing Toronto's Ed Mirvish Theatre from October 27 to November 8, 2015.

I'm probably one of the few people on the entire planet who genuinely enjoys the Mummy flicks starring Brendan Fraser. Although they're more Indiana Jones-esque in nature, there were just enough genre elements for some to classify these flicks as horror.
