The 1984 dark comedy Gremlins starred Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates and was a box office hit and has since become a cult classic. Despite it being 31 years since the first Gremlins film hit screens, Chris, who directed the original said he was partnering with Steven Spielberg to make the third installment happen at CinemaCon in Las Vegas recently.

The lensman, best known for his work on Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films, was 59. Russell Crowe, on whose feature directing debut The Water Diviner Lesnie worked, was among the first to mark his passing on social media as news broke on Tuesday afternoon. Lesnie had a long and storied career in filmmaking, mostly in Australia and New Zealand despite the fact his reputation was such that he could have worked anywhere he chose.

When senior Caitlin Weaver was little kid, she attended a high school production of "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street." Her father was the technical director of the production, and from that point on "Sweeney Todd" quickly became one of her favorite musicals growing up.

Every summer, we're inundated with a slew of big studio blockbusters that attempt to stand head and shoulders above the rest of the competition with eye-popping visuals and lots and lots of money up on the screen. The trend began with Steven Spielberg 's Jaws , which took the box office by storm in the summer of 1975 but now feels absolutely quaint in comparison to modern blockbuster fare.

Taken 3 . The third "Taken" film is all set in and around Los Angeles -- even if parts of it were filmed as far away as Spain -- while the first took the action to France and the second went to Istanbul.

A French artist has completely covered a derelict Los Angeles motel -- palm trees and all -- with a dazzling coat of white paint to create an enormous, ghostly artwork. Called "Projections," the piece by Vincent Lamouroux was publicly unveiled Sunday in LA's trendy Silver Lake neighborhood, and instantly became a local attraction, with fascinated passersby stopping to snap images of the motel.
