A new year can mean rebirth and renewal, although in today's movie business, those words tend to actually mean resuscitation, regeneration, and retread. On Dec. 29, 1170, Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury, was slain in Canterbury Cathedral by knights loyal to King Henry II. In 1812, during the War of 1812, the American frigate USS Constitution engaged and severely damaged the British frigate HMS Java off Brazil.

To promote his upcoming horror album Lost Themes , arriving February 3rd from Sacred Bones Records, legendary director John Carpenter sat down to discuss his experiences scoring Halloween and some of his other iconic horror films. Interviewed by NPR , Carpenter talked about his early musical training, his inspirations, and his work on movies like Halloween , The Fog , etc.
