Good day, defenders of all things radiation-filled. This is the weekend of Godzilla ! Even though Gareth Edwards' update on the monster legend doesn't quite share the horror genre cred of its original source material, it was a bigger blast on the big screen than many horror films are, so I'm still roaring in celebration.

Christian Slater's career hasn't quite been the same since he got "Bolled," starring in Uwe Boll's Alone in the Dark in 2005, but he remains a likable actor. Unfortunately, Way of the Wicked, in which he plays a priest tracking a kid who may or may not be the Antichrist, isn't the starring vehicle fans would hope for. As expected, the Godzilla reboot reigned supreme at the box office in its opening weekend, earning an estimated $93.2 million. That's the second biggest opening of the year, trailing only Captain America: The Winter Soldier's $95 million, and it's already earned almost as much domestically as the entire run of last year's similarly plotted giant monster movie Pacific Rim, which took in about $102 million in the US. Can you say Godzilla 2?
