It's been a tough year so far for major-studio horror movies, both critically and commercially, and Lionsgate's The Quiet Ones did little to buck that trend this past weekend, earning mixed reviews and a meager box office take of around $4 million. That number is on par with Vampire Academy's dismal opening in February, although The Quiet Ones at least played on 650 fewer screens. Those films have had the two worst openings, regardless of genre, this year to date for movies showing on 2,000 or more screens.
