Joining the ranks of young adult novel adaptation flops The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Beautiful Creatures and The HostVampire Academy tanked in its opening weekend. Even by its modest expectations, Vampire Academy underperformed by earning a meager $4.1 million, despite playing on over 2,600 screens. That was good enough for only seventh place and most likely good enough to guarantee that there will be no adaptations of the other books in the VA series.
