Adrian Lyne's 1990 mind trip Jacob's Ladder is the latest horror/suspense movie to get the Hollywood remake treatment. The film, which starred Tim Robbins as a Vietnam vet who sees horrifying visions that may or may not be real, did modest business at the box office but its hallucinatory visuals have been very influential within the horror realm -- to the point of cliché. Jeff Buhler, who wrote the excellent Clive Barker adaptation The Midnight Meat Train, is currently retooling a script by Jake Wade Wall, who wrote the not-so-excellent remakes The Hitcher and When a Stranger Calls. The producers of another so-so remake, Fright Night, are behind this one, as is Mickey Liddell, whose genre résumé includes The Collector films, Silent House, The Grey and The Haunting of Molly Hartley.

Straight out of Australia, 100 Bloody Acres delivers the standard horror scenario of stranded travelers tormented by backwoods locals, except this time, it’s played for laughs, and the locals are actually the more sympathetic of the bunch. Amber Heard in All the Boys Love Mandy Lane

Jonathan Levine's debut slasher All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, recently rescued from Distribution Hell by The Weinstein Company after a whopping seven years on the shelf, finally has a firm release date. It will hit theaters in limited release on October 11, but will be available on demand a month earlier, on September 6. After all this time -- Levine has directed THREE films since Mandy Lane -- I suppose another three or four months won't hurt.
