I had high hopes for Aftershock, given Eli Roth’s involvement and the killer concept of earthquake survivors battling escaped prisoners, but it ended up putting me in “aftershock” — that is, shock after watching such a flawed movie. The Vampire Diaries has been a consistently performing hit for The CW over the past four years, so it’s not surprising the network has decided to go ahead with a spinoff series. Entitled The Originals, the new show, which will debut in the fall, will revolve around “original” vampire Klaus (Joseph Morgan, right) as he returns to his old stomping ground in New Orleans and reunites with his nefarious former protege Marcel (Charles Michael Davis). The show was previewed in the recent Vampire Diaries episode “The Originals,” which served as an informal pilot.
