Perhaps the most impressive cast you’ll see for the next few weeks won’t be on the big screen, but rather in the direct-to-video thriller Columbus Circle, which lands on March 6. The twisty tale of money, murder, back stabbing and agoraphobia features Selma Blair, Amy Smart, Jason Lee, Giovanni Ribisi, Kevin Pollak, Beau Bridges and Robert Guillaume. But does the movie live up to the star power? Read about it in my review of Columbus Circle.

Doesn’t anyone ever move anything UP on the schedule? Once again, two more horror/suspense movies have been delayed. The more high-profile of the two, the eagerly anticipated sequel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, has been bumped back from the Halloween season (October 5) all the way to the dead of winter (January 4, 2013). Rabies isn’t what you think it is. First of all, it’s not a movie about rabies. Second, it’s from Israel, hardly a hotbed of horror filmmaking. Third, it goes out of its way to be an “un-slasher” movie, slyly undermining genre expectations every step of the way. It’s also certain to be one of the best direct-to-video horror releases of the year. Look for it on shelves starting February 28. Read about it in my review of Rabies.

Last summer, it was reported that Johnny Depp was producing a big-screen adaptation of the short-lived supernatural TV show Kolchak: The Night Stalker, but now it appears that he’s not only producing, but starring in it as well. And lo and behold, none other than Edgar Wright has been tapped to direct. The British filmmaker’s feature film résumé — writing and directing duties on Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World — has been, like Kolchak‘s run in the ’70s, brief but cultish in its appeal.
