Director James Wan and actor Patrick Wilson, who teamed for last year’s surprise hit Insidious, are joining forces for another ghostly flick. The Conjuring, according to The Hollywood Reporter, follows “a husband and wife team of demonologists and psychic investigators who enter the most horrifying case of their career, spirits in a Rhode Island farmhouse.” Vera Farmiga (Orphan) will play the wife in the equation. The story is based on real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren and their investigation of the legend of Bethesda Sherman, a witch who supposedly cursed anyone who took over her land after she died.

It seems the remake of The Crow has more lives than the undead titular character. It’s gone through several iterations, with Stephen Norrington (Blade) and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) each attached to direct at one time or another and Bradley Cooper and Mark Wahlberg each tapped to star. On top of all the personnel shuffling, The Weinstein Company last year filed a lawsuit to to halt Relativity Media’s plans for the “reinvention.”

If you expect The Grey to be like Taken with wolves, you might be a bit disappointed to find few scenes of Liam Neeson engaging in hand-to-paw combat. However, you might also be pleasantly surprised that the heartfelt emotion and dramatic resonance of the film equals its popcorn thrills. Read about it in my review of The Grey.
