Apollo 18 Pushed Back to April

Release of the lunar “found footage” thriller Apollo 18 has been delayed seven weeks, from March 4 to April 22, according to the movie’s official website. The move is a bit curious, considering April is more crowded than March as far as genre fare goes: Insidious, Scream 4, Mother’s Day and Rubber are all scheduled to hit theaters that month. The move is even more curious when taking into account that Scream 4, releasing just a week before Apollo 18, comes from the same studio: The Weinstein Company.

Monsters Director Hired for Godzilla

Gareth Edwards, the British filmmaker who made a name for himself this past year with the ultra-low-budget pic Monsters — in which giant animal-like aliens land on Earth and throw things into chaos — has signed on to bring another huge creature to the big screen: Godzilla.

2010 is over, and it’s time to show me the money! Which horror and suspense movies did the biggest business this past year? Looking at the list of 50-plus films, the biggest surprise to me is The Wolfman, which was savaged by critics and seemed to have earned the reputation of being a flop, but in fact it made over $60 million.

Killer Tire Flick Rubber to Hit Screens in April

The cult film in the making Rubber — in which a telekinetic car tire makes things (like people’s heads) explode — is set to hit the road. Magnet Releasing has scheduled it to roll into theaters (in limited release) on April 1. As is now customary with Magnet, the film will be available on demand before its theatrical showing — starting February 25.
