Anchor Bay has made a name for itself over the years for releasing cult horror movies on video, but the company has recently jumped headlong into theatrical releases — albeit on a limited scale. While Anchor Bay’s Frozen currently chills in theaters, three more acquisitions were recently announced by the distributor:
- I Spit on Your Grave: A remake of the notorious (and often banned) 1978 rape-and-revenge tale, with a little-known cast and a director (Steven R. Monroe) who’s mostly done forgettable direct-to-video and SyFy fare (It Waits, Ogre, Sasquatch Mountain, Left in Darkness), although he did helm the solid ensemble flick House of 9. Anchor Bay plans on releasing the remake in theaters in the fall, with a home video release in the first quarter of 2011.

The Eclipse is not the next Twilight Movie — that’s just Eclipse — but rather an acclaimed Irish dramatic thriller about a lonely widower who, two years after his wife’s death, feels that he’s being haunted by a ghost. When he seeks the aid of an author who’s an expert on the supernatural, he becomes embroiled in a relationship triangle with her obsessive ex-lover, played by Aidan Quinn. The Eclipse will be available on demand on February 26 and will receive a limited theatrical run starting March 26. In the meantime, check out the trailer and some photos.

It’s that time again… Once again we expose those often embarrassing early roles in horror movies from today’s biggest stars. Do you know what horror/suspense movie helped Christopher Walken get his career going? How about Thomas Jane? Bradley Cooper? Mila Kunis? Edward James Olmos? Can you guess who this is in this photo and what movie he’s in? (Answer.) See all these and more in the continuing journey through Before They Were Stars.

Following a couple of lengthy delays, The Wolfman finally hits theaters 10 months after it was initially due. Was it worth the wait? Probably not, but it’s no stinker either. Read about it in my review of The Wolfman.

I don't like to take political sides on this site, but things are leaning decidedly left in this week's horror movie TV schedule, with the premieres of The Last House on the Left (Saturday, February 20, at 10:00 PM ET/PT on Cinemax) and the lesser-known Belgian thriller Left Bank (Thursday, February 18, at 10:00 PM ET/PT on Sundance), which plays a bit like The Wicker Man in an urban setting.
