Let’s face it: Hollywood movie posters have become largely a cookie-cutter affair, as predictable as, well, most Hollywood movies themselves. As this gallery shows, though, when movies hit foreign soil, the local flavor often comes through, reminding us that movie posters can indeed be an art form…for better (Poland’s The Shining, right) or worse (Japan, I’m looking in your direction).

This week bevy of DVD releases has a distinctly international flavor, featuring films from England, Japan, Australia, Korea and Italy, including efforts from Ringu director Hideo Nakata, Italian icon Lucio Fulci and American cult author Edward Lee — not to mention something called I Know How Many Runs You Scored Last Summer.

With the remake of The Wolf Man still more than four months away, it seems like a good time to cover what I consider to be the 25 best werewolf movies to date (horror movies, that is; sorry, Teen Wolf fans). Just watch one or two a week, and you’ll be more than prepared when The Wolf Manhits theaters on November 9.

This week, the Jennifer Lynch thriller Surveillance opens in New York and Los Angeles, while DVD releases feature an early zombie role for Virginia Madsen, Haylie Duff battling hillbillies, Crispin Glover preying on campers and Gopher from The Love Boat fighting crime with Dracula, Frankenstein’s mosnter and the Wolf Man. Plus Hobgoblins.
