New Moon Smashes Box Office Records

New Moon beat even the most optimistic of projections this past weekend by racking up an estimated $140 million at the box office, the third-highest opening weekend in history — trailing only The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 3. That figure includes a record one-day gross of $72.7 million, which itself includes a record take of $26.3 million from opening night midnight showings — enough money to maybe boost the shirt budget for the next film. Final numbers are due late Monday.
